What is Ska & Reggae Music?
Ska and Reggae music are two distinct genres with Caribbean origins, each offering a unique musical experience that’s certain to bring the party to life!
Reggae Music
Reggae, most famously popularised by Bob Marley, originated in Jamaica in the late 60s. With its laid-back rhythm and upbeat vibe, it’s equally fitting for relaxing background music as it is dancing.
Ska Music
A precursor to Reggae, Ska emerged in Jamaica in the late 50s. Known for its upbeat tempo and rhythm, Ska typically includes a brass section featuring trumpet and trombone alongside guitars, bass, drums, and keys. It’s more upbeat and faster-paced than Reggae, making it the perfect soundtrack for a lively and energetic party atmosphere.

What does it cost to hire a ska/reggae band?
The price of a reggae band or ska band can vary depending on the number of members in the band. At DG Music, our bands start from £1250 in their local area, although factors such as travelling distance and expenses may increase the quote.
All quotes include PA system, lighting, music between sets, PAT and PLI certificates as standard.
How much space does a party band need?
If you’re booking a band for a lively party or wedding reception, it’s essential to ensure they have enough space to perform at their best. For a 4-piece or 5-piece band, we recommend about 5m x 3m, with around a meter width per additional member.
Please refer to the Spec section on the artist’s profile page to get the exact dimensions for your chosen band.
What do I need to provide the band with?
Every band’s requirements are different, but as standard, our musicians request the following:
- Soft drinks, tea and coffee
- Parking or reimbursed costs
- A secure room for changing and leaving belongings
- A hot meal (for evening bands)
- Electricity supply
- Enough space for them to perform
